1378 years after his passing, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has 1.57 billion followers across the globe. In celebration of his amazing life, Building Bridges in Burnley teamed up with the Burnley and Pendle Faith Centre and the students of Thomas Whitam Sixth Form to host an exciting exhibition, creative workshops and formal presentation in spectacular spiritual space at the heart of the Burnley Campus’s rotunda.

The event was held on Friday, 5th March 2010, a
week after a large section of the Burnley Muslim community celebrated the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday. The exhibition officially opened at 2.00pm with displaying of classical and contemporary pieces of Arabic calligraphy, a comprehensive display of the noble sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him),
a historical documentation of poetry in praise of the Prophet and a series of artefacts, including praying mats, miswak (a traditional toothbrush stick), a collection of perfumes and a range of booklets for people to takeaway.
Later, at 5.00pm, the Creative Workshops opened to the public including a workshop regarding the Prophet’s guidance on hygiene and good health, understanding Islamic poetry and a workshop with a professional calligrapher with audience participation. A few lucky members of the audience had their names written for them in Arabic!
The formal part of the programme began at 7.00pm with an Arabic and English Nasheed (sonnet), a passionate poetry recital by one of the Sixth Form students and a comprehensive retelling of the Prophet’s early life. Terry Murnane, the Community Faith Coordinator based at the Faith Centre, closed the evening with a vote of thanks.
