Feed Your Neighbour 09
Its been just over a year since we first launched this initiative. Though widely hailed as a success, the main criticism of the event was that it didn't provide for deeper and more meaningful discussions. So this year, following a consultation with friends from mosques and churches, we decided to change the format, in the hopes of creating an opportunitiy for people to form new friendships.
The Ghausia Mosque on Old Hall St, and Masjid Ibrahim on Clegg St offered to host the initiative. Families from a number of churches pledged to attend, with up to 40 people registering their interest. So on Sunday, 29th November 09, the third day of Eid-ul-Adha, Afrasaib Anwar of the Ghausia mosque welcomed the mosque's guests and took them on a tour of the new mosque before the hosts and the guests stood together for a picture and then went on to join their host families for a meal.
Just a few streets away, the Principal Officer of BBB welcomed Masjid Ibrahim's guests. Masjid Ibrahim had settled on a slightly different format, with the food served in the mosque itself. Guests at both events enjoyed the food and conversation, but requested that future events have more women and children present, and hoped that they would be given a chance to reciprocate by welcoming Muslim families to their churches and homes for food, conversation and the possibility of lasting friendships.
